Describe the product condition
Provide the specification and expected handling temperature, together with any known viscosity and operational requirements. The operator should confirm compatibility before a commercial comparison.
Make heating costs visible
Ask whether heating and circulation are required, available and included. Clarify how energy and additional pumping are charged. Avoid treating a headline rental charge as the complete cost.
Confirm transfers and blending
Explain the intended receiving, transfer and dispatch plan. If blending is required, define who agrees the recipe and quality responsibilities. Do not assume that all storage proposals include blending.
Describe the handling requirement instead of guessing a temperature
A fuel oil storage enquiry should identify the grade, available specification data and the handling questions that need technical assessment. Viscosity and temperature requirements can affect the proposed receipt, storage and dispatch arrangement. Ask the responsible technical team to establish operating conditions for the actual product; do not adopt a temperature from another cargo or a generic online guide.
- Provide product data and intended movement conditions.
- Identify whether heating or circulation needs assessment.
- Distinguish essential requirements from optional services.
Ask how services will be defined and charged
If heating, blending or additional handling is proposed, clarify what is included, how usage is measured and which operating assumptions support the price. Ask who approves a change and how it is recorded. A quotation with a storage rate alone may leave material service costs unresolved. Keep technical feasibility and the charging basis as separate questions so neither is inferred from the other.
- Ask whether charges are fixed, usage-based or subject to minimums.
- Identify any excluded energy or handling costs.
- Confirm whether a service requires separate approval.
Plan the exit as carefully as the receipt
Explain the intended outgoing parcel sizes, transport method and timing. Ask what product information and movement instructions will be required before dispatch. If storage supports marine fuel trading, keep terminal storage distinct from physical bunkering or vessel supply. A storage arrangement does not automatically include delivery to a vessel, blending to a sale specification or every related marine service.
- Confirm the scope of storage versus onward delivery.
- Agree responsibilities for quality and quantity checks.
- Request a fuel oil storage quote with the full movement plan.
