1 / Define the question

State the proposed transaction, the specific claims under review, available documents, deadline and intended decision. Confirm what the engagement includes and excludes.

2 / Establish the source

Record where each item originated. Distinguish customer-supplied material from independently obtained records and direct issuer responses. Keep the date of each check visible.

3 / Classify findings

Use four clear outcomes: confirmed, unconfirmed, inconsistent or outside scope. Explain the evidence supporting each classification. A missing response is not proof of wrongdoing.

4 / Explain practical limits

Document review alone does not establish physical inventory, title, unrestricted capacity, legal enforceability or future performance. Identify where specialist legal, inspection or technical work would be needed.

5 / Deliver next steps

Provide the findings, outstanding questions and suggested follow-up in a written report. Update conclusions only when additional evidence supports a change.

Your questions, answered

Frequently asked questions

Answers to help you prepare your next step.

How are unsupported claims reported?

They remain unconfirmed unless sufficient evidence supports a different classification. An unanswered request is not automatically treated as wrongdoing.

What makes a source independent of the deal chain?

Its identity and contact route are established separately from the material being checked. The review records how information was obtained and when.

Can findings change after a report is delivered?

New evidence can change an assessment. Keep the report date, scope and underlying sources visible when reviewing an updated conclusion.
